SAX Appeal 2012; best yet

UPDATE: By 15:00 today, almost 10 hours after they started selling, it’s been reported that more than 30 000 copies of SAX Appeal 2012 has already been sold… I think many publishers in the industry can sit up, and take note.
I’ve seen a few issues of SAX Appeal in my time while I’ve lived in Cape Town, and the 2012 issue is by far the best so far (For my 2011-report, click here). In previous issues they sometimes tried too hard to be funny, and then lost the plot.
Don’t get me wrong, there are still many areas they can improve the quality of the magazine (Pixelated images are a start), but so far it’s one of the strongest and best issues I’ve seen. I remember the first publication I produced myself in matric… I wish someone could have taught me a few things first…
I had the privilege of meeting the editor in chief Mangaka Meso quickly yesterday when I went to collect my issue, and with the few words that were exchanged, I could pick up that they realised the quality of previous issues wasn’t too high, and that the 2012-team had to make a few changes, and make it worth the R20 (donation) to the buyer.
And they succeeded.
I also had the privilege of writing a little something-something for this issue, and being a contributor amongst great people like Gareth Cliff and Ricky Bynight (MyCityByNight.co.za), and I’m also pretty proud of my contribution. I’ll upload the article next week, but it’s about a new device called TamaPolitchi that politicians need to play with (like the Tamagotchi) to see if they are cut out for the job… If you’ve read it, I would love to hear your feedback, seeing as it’s my first little article for a magazine.
Thank you, and congrats again to the SAX 2012 team. Great job! But to the SAX 2013-team, good luck…

The fold-out cover of SAX Appeal 2012 features the beautiful Jeannie D, on a mock-Cosmopolitan cover. Very smart.

Some of the contributors, including me, myself and I

More Jeannie D…

Very CLEO and Cosmopolitan… it even has a “Sealed Saxxx Section”… Not sealed, but still.

One of the things that can be improved on, is the quality of some of the pictures. I think that above effect was meant to be like this, but there are many examples of very pixelated pictures. I would suggest possibly keeping a little of budget for buying certain images (like ‘note of paper ‘on pg 44, and ‘magnifying glass’ on pg 64) from GETTY, instead of Google Images.

My article I contributed. A must-read… he he. I will upload the copy next week.

If you are not in Cape Town, or missed the crazy 1st Year Students selling the magazine this morning, and would REALLY like a copy to support a good cause, you can buy the copy directly from the team for R30, and have it posted to you. You can order it through mailing saxappeal2012@gmail.com.
I’m already looking forward to next year :-)
